session faqs

Whether this is your first time or you’re a photography model, we strive to make the session stress free and fun. We work with you prior to the session date to develop and gather ideas for your session through various methods (our questionnaire, Pinterest Boards, Text, etc). We want to ensure that we have a plan to capture all your “must-have” shots. This way, all you do is show up and smile!
-
As parents of two kids (one being a toddler), we completely understand the concern of kids having meltdowns. Part of our initial planning of your session is determining when are the best times for your child(ren). We typically find morning sessions are easier on young children, however, an evening session may be better for the rest of the family so we recommend making sure younger children are fed and have a chance to play prior to the session, if that’s the case.
-
If your session is at our studio, we have bathrooms. If the session is on location, we do have a portable changing tent that can be used.
-
Unless the session has a specific theme or clothing, a good rule of thumb is “Sunday’s Best”. For more tips on what to wear, please check out this article.
-
We understand that Texas weather can change quickly, and in West Texas the wind can be an issue. We always try to plan according to how the weather is forecasted and wind speeds. We also utilize a number of locations (including our indoor studio) to help with various weather situations.
-
Sometimes life gets in the way of the best laid plans, but we do appreciate punctuality. When working outdoors, sessions are time sensitive as they are dependent on the sun. While we do account for a small amount of wiggle room, if another session is booked after yours, we cannot guarantee a full session if you are more than 10 minutes late.
finished product faqs
-
After the session is completed, we will take the time to ensure that you will be receiving only the best images from the session. We do post editing to the images we send you (cropping, removing blemishes, etc.). This does take time, so depending on the session, the turn around can be up to a few weeks. We always give an estimation on turnaround time at the end of the session.
-
A big part of our planning process is ensuring we deliver the best product to you. We not only want you to love your photos, we want you to show them off! Working with you in our initial planning phase helps us coordinate outfits, most wanted poses, and other ideas for the session. We do this to meet your ultimate goal of how you will be using the images, whether that’s displaying them in your home, work, or just online.
-
We utilize an online gallery to deliver your digital images. You will be able to download and can even purchase prints or different products in the same place! This gallery can also be shared with loved ones!
newborn session faqs
-
The best time to schedule your session is before your little one is born. This way you can rest assured that your newborn photo shoot will occur within 2 weeks of birth, the very best time to get the sweetest photographs! Our availablility fills up quickly and can only take on a limited amount of newborns each month. Let’s make sure that we have your session tenatively on the calendar before the birth so that you don’t have to think about it once the baby is born.
-
Your due date will be your session date so that we can be sure that you are on my calendar for that month. Once your baby is born and you are ready to go home, all you have to do is send us an email or text and from there we’ll schedule a definitive session date and time within the first 5-10 days of your baby’s arrival.
Once you book your newborn photo shoot session I’ll send you a detailed email with all the information you need to know including what you can expect from your session, how to prep yourself and your baby and other helpful insights and tips.
-
The sooner the better! Newborns tend to stay sound asleep a few days after birth and because of this we are able to gently move your little one into sweet poses. After a couple of weeks, this is not as easy to do. After the 14 day mark babies begin to stretch and the poses won’t be as easy to accomplish. However, we can schedule your little one for a newborn session up to 2 months.
-
If we have an opening in our calendar we am happy to accommodate. We really love to take newborn pictures 5-10 days after birth. After that, some of the most adorable poses aren’t as easy to achieve. However, we are willing to work with babies up to 2 months.
-
We have a few hats, headbands, and wraps that we can play with. If you are wanting a specific outfit or theme you will have to purchase those, but please let us know so we can accommodate a set up for whatever you've come up with. Once you have booked your session a questionaire will be sent to get more information including any specific theme you are wanting as well as showing pictures with all the color wraps, hats, and headbands as well as containers that we currently have!
-
After your session we’ll discuss when you when you can expect your photographs to be available for viewing in your online gallery. You will recieve a few images as a sneak peek about a week after the session! Any questions you may have or request of an update can always be done over phone call, text, or email!
-
Absolutely! Photographing your little one surrounded by family is an incredible experience for everyone involved. We can automatically include this into your booked Newborn session, however understand that the majority of the session will be focused on the newborn.
Wanting an additional 30 minutes to just focus on family or incorporate grandparents? No problem we can easily add an addtional 30 minute session ($150) to accommodate your needs.
-
We want you to feel comfortable so we suggest wearing clothes that you can move freely in. We recommend soft toned, solid colors, avoiding loud prints and patterns so that we can keep the focus on the baby.
If you would like a more traditional look, a black t-shirt is a nice choice but we have found that many clients like a more modern, light and airy look with soft and muted colors.
Whatever you choose just let us know your color scheme so we can choose the perfect background to make you and your family look fantastic!
-
Your newborn sessions vary on price ($400 to $600 plus tax) includes your session time and 15-25+ uniquely edited images for you to review in your online gallery. We try to exceed this image number but we can never anticipate the newborn's mood nor siblings cooperation and these can impact the number of gallery images.
A deposit of 20% is required to book a session, the remainder will be due the day of the session.
-
Your session will take between an hour to 2 hours depending on the session you choose. We often pause for feeding and changing. The atmosphere is very relaxed and comfortable and the pace of our session will be determined by the baby.
-
You will receive your images 2-3 weeks from your session date and be able to view them in an online gallery set up just for you! Need them faster? No problem! We do charge a rush fee but can get you the gallery in about 3 days to a week.
-
Your session will take place in our photography studio in downtown Midland, Texas. Just bring yourself and your little bundle of joy and rest assured that the studio is fully stocked with all the necessary props to keep you comfortable throughout your session.
cake smash faqs
-
Cake Smash sessions last about 30 minutes, though we plan for 45 minutes just in case. The beginning is comprised of milestone pictures, in which I capture the personality of your little one alone. Next we begin by taking pictures of your little one in their cake smash outfit before introducing the cake or fruit. We let your baby set the pace, as some little ones dig right in and destroy the cake/fruit, and others need a little bit of encouragement and sometimes even help to get into their cake.
-
Due to concern for allergens, Wilson Photography LLC is not able to provide the cake or fruit. I am happy to recommend some local bakers if you will not be making the cake yourself.
-
Select a small cake or large cupcake, approximately 6-8 inches around. Whether you are making the cake, or having it made, please consider the following items:
Please make sure that there are no fondant, gum paste or pearls on the cake as those can be choking hazards for the baby. Small sprinkles are okay.
When ordering the cake, please mention to the baker it is for a Cake Smash session so they do not add any support inside the cake. (Sticks, toothpicks, tubs, etc.) When baby begins to smash the cake, they can get hurt by this.
Be sure the colors of the cake matches the theme of the session. For example, a Mickey Mouse theme can have Black, Yellow and red colors.
Remove the cake from the refrigerator 2-3 hours before the session to allow the frosting to come to room temperature. That way the frosting is soft and easy for baby to destroy.
-
Cake or Fruit
Portrait outfit and/or Cake Smash Outfit
1 additional outfit for Baby as backup
Diapers & wipes (lots of wipes!)
Sippy cup to help wash down the cake or fruit
Wooden or plastic spoon. If baby does not like to get their hands dirty, they can still use the spoon to destroy the cake.
Snacks (think cheerios, or puffs) in case they don’t like the cake. I sometimes have to hide them in the back of the cake to make it look like your little one is actually eating cake.
A favorite toy (to get attention)
-
Once you choose the theme or color of your little one’s cake smash, it’ll be easier to choose the outfit. Etsy is a wonderful resource for buying custom made outfits that will make this photo session memorable. Amazon is also a great choice. Please be sure to order the outfit with plenty of time prior to the session.
-
Due to our 2-3 week turn around time, we recommend booking at least a month prior to the big day! If you are wanting a custom backdrop, it takes about 2 weeks to get the backdrops in so booking in advance is best.
-
The theme can be simple (just color theme) or a little more custom (western, boho, Mickey Mouse, etc). Having trouble figuring about a theme? We recommend scrolling through Pinterest or Google, incorporating your little one’s favorite tv show or toy, or even their favorite food flavor or fruit!
